Mercedes Benz — F Cell RoadsterApr 07, 2012
Hydrogen Electric Fuel Cell Power The Mercedes-Benz F-CELL Roadster pays homage to the very first car ever built, the Benz Patent Motor Car, but adds joystick control, a fiberglass body and hydrogen-electric fuel-cell power. The car is purported to contain all of Mercedes top-shelf technologies and boasts a carbon fiber and fiberglass body structure, a compact 1.2 kW fuel cell for power generation and a top speed of 25 km/h. The car also does away with silly inventions like the steering wheel and goes back to a joystick for control, which is like an updated version of the tiller found on the 1886 Benz Patent Motor Car. Oh yeah, there's also the big, silly spoked bicycle wheels. We can't help but actually like the shape and compactness of the car. Put some real wheels and tires on it and a high strung four cylinder in the back and we'd take it over a McLaren SLR Stirling Moss.

2011 Nissan Leaf EV - Quick Spin - NRMA DriverSeatFeb 05, 2012
The future is now, friends. In the space of just a few short months we've sampled both ends of the electric car spectrum, and can now say that a world without oil won't be so dull as you might have once thought it would be. The Tesla Roadster we drove a few months back was a revelation; its performance was staggering -- and the LEAF is just as impressive, if not as quick. What these two cars have in common, though, is that they're the stuff of science fact and not fiction. The Mercedes-Benz's F-Cell car, which was touring Australia recently, is great but you can't buy one and won't be able to for a wee while yet. The Tesla, Nissan LEAF and Mitsubishi i-MiEV, on the other hand, are real cars that you can buy and drive now. Well, sort of. The LEAF won't go on-sale here until next year -- pricing is yet to be confirmed but expect it to be up around $60K -- about the same as a top-spec Toyota Prius. Well, before the recent price cut. for the written car review visit www.www.mynrma.com.au
